The Youth Waterways Programme being run by Share Discovery Village is ideal for any young person looking to have fun on the water and learn new skills. Oh and did we mention that it is completely FREE?!
What is the Youth Waterways Programme?
Waterways is one of 16 projects that received funding through Fermanagh and Omagh PEACE IV Local Action Plan from a total funding package of £2.8m to deliver projects across three key strands; Shared Spaces and Services, Children and Young People and Building Positive Relations at a local level.
Share Discovery Village will deliver two 16 week programmes for young people who reside within the Upper Lough Erne Region.
The programmes will run once a week May and June, then resume again in September through to October.
Each group will meet for 16 sessions.
Programme 1: ‘Island Life’ 7-11 Year Old’s.
Every Friday 6.30 – 9.00 pm at Share Discovery Village.
Starting Friday May 17th until June 28th and resuming again Friday 6th September until 25th October
Programme 2: ‘Waterways in Motion’ 12-16 Year Old’s:
Every Thursday 6.30 – 9.00 pm at Share Discovery Village.
Starting Thursday 16th May until June 27th and resuming again Thursday 5th September until 24th October
Both programmes have a focus on sporting activities which can be delivered on Upper Lough Erne including water safety, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and sailing.
‘Island Life’ 7-11 year old’s
Focus on sporting activities which can be delivered on Upper Lough Erne including water safety, canoeing and kayaking. There will be visits to the unique sites of Upper Lough Erne and the creation of a piece of legacy in the form of art work. There will be a day expedition to a local Island. All participants must be confident swimming outside in the water
‘Waterways in Motion’ 12–16 year old’s
Focus on sporting activities which can be delivered on Upper Lough Erne including water safety, canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and sailing.
The young people will also work towards recognised BCU Paddle Start and RYA performance awards. There will be visits to the unique sites of Upper Lough Erne and an overnight camping expedition on an Island on Upper Lough Erne. All participants must be confident swimming outside in the water.
